Your ego drives you to act in the world, to earn money, to achieve goals, to become something. If you subscribe to the viewpoint that you should not do any of that in order to be spiritual beings, then you are preventing yourself from accepting who you really are.

Acceptance is the key here. You get to acceptance through meditation and contemplation focused on being okay with where you are and what you are doing. While trying to find meaning and purpose in life by chasing after money, material goods, or sexual partners often leaves people feeling empty and far from enlightened, ignoring the desire for careers and goals does, too. Accepting you are human and that you have human needs helps bring peace.
