Chapter Five: Mind

As the title of this chapter suggests, the tools here are intended to help strengthen your mind. Strong minds have good memories, so here you’ll discover tools to help you remember what you’ve read, the people you’ve met, and why you want to remember it all.

As the title of this chapter suggests, the tools here are intended to help strengthen your mind. Strong minds have good memories, so here you’ll discover tools to help you remember what you’ve read, the people you’ve met, and why you want to remember it all.

But strong minds are more than memory receptors. Strong minds think clearly and seek to understand the world in ways that lead to happier and fuller lives. To that end, there are tools here that assist you with questioning your belief systems and the belief systems that others try to thrust on you. You will also discover how to examine habitual thought patterns and learn to make new ones, and why it’s important to face your fears so you can eliminate their inhibiting power over you.

Creating a strong mind, though, means you also take care of it. That, in turn, means you get adequate sleep and you give your brain a chance to empty itself periodically, to refresh and recharge, and to be prepared to take on new thoughts. If you are concerned with the ability to control your thoughts and retain what you learn, give some of these tools a try, beginning with writing book reviews, which helps you get clarity on what you’ve read and to remember the information better.
